Consumers deserve clear rules
Adults should know what is lawful, why it is lawful, and when rules change.
Responsibility standard · 28 May 2026
The coalition has prepared correspondence asking Alberta to judge every participant by the same responsibility standard: prevention, compliance, enforcement, and correction.
Responsibility is not a brand word here. It is a test: what should consumers, retailers, regulators, and lawmakers each be expected to do?
Adults should know what is lawful, why it is lawful, and when rules change.
Training, age checks, refusal of sale, and inspection cooperation should be described in observable terms.
Public reporting should show whether enforcement reaches the sellers and channels creating the real problem.
The coalition is publishing the standard so every side can be judged by the same practical expectations.
