Next Steps Should Have a Compliance Map
Responsible Vaping Coalition asks Alberta to pair Bill 208 next steps with a public compliance map.
A map beats a promise
Alberta says its Tobacco and Vaping Enforcement Team inspects retailers, educates retailers, coordinates enforcement, and responds to public complaints, according to Alberta rules and enforcement. A next-steps review should map those activities to the Bill 208 problem it is trying to solve.
The four map layers
Each layer requires a different enforcement tool. A single product restriction does not reach all four equally.
The federal lesson
Health Canada’s TVPA review notes enforcement tools such as warning letters, product seizures, and possible stronger tools, according to the federal review PDF. Alberta should be equally clear about the tools it will use.
